frp ceiling

We were commissioned to design, fabricate and install a circular ceiling made of FRP (glass fiber reinforced polymer) for the Cemex Headquarters in Mexico City. Our collaboration with architect Agustin Landa aimed to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional solution to conceal the MEP infrastructure.

The doughnut’s complete shape was divided into smaller pieces in a 3D model simulation. Starting with a CNC- printed cedar wood piece, we then created a fiberglass mold that allowed us to pre-cast all the required components. The anchoring and leveling system, essential for a seamless appearance, were embedded within each FRP panel. Employing a clip system facilitated an efficient installation process.

The fabrication of these GFRP pieces took place at our workshop in Monterrey, N.L. Once completed, they were transported to the construction site in Mexico City, ready for installation. The choice of GFRP material ensured a lightweight ceiling that required minimal maintenance, meeting both aesthetic and practical considerations.
